I can't say that I blame you. It's really gotten quite awful, and I wish I could rip some of my knowledge of it out of my head, so I could stop feeling so awful about what these people have written into the secondary canon by way of these books.
*Nods* SG-1 reminds me a lot of what was really good about ST, when it comes to exploration and discovery and establishing diplomatic relations. I hate to say it, but SW is more about surviving in the midst of wartime situations and trying to help save as many good people as possible than it is about trying to bring different people together peacefully. Sure, SG-1 has its bad guys (as does ST), but the bad guys haven't taken over the galaxy or started a bitter galactic-wide civil war, and that tends to change things a lot.
