Something to Come Back To
With Little Ani napping, Padme suggested that they find somewhere to hide. Her husband's eyebrows rose in surprise, and he regarded her with a mock-stern expression. He and Anakin had both been given a ten day leave in view of their last lengthy stint of service on the Outer Rim, and the entire family, including his former Padawan were spending that leave time at Varyinko. While the respite was welcome in any form, what both of them truly craved now was time alone, away from the bustle of the family and even the needs of their son.
"Now, Padme. What would your mother say?" he asked with a teasing grin.
She slid her hands sensuously over his shoulders then laced her fingers behind his neck. He leaned forward, expecting a kiss, but she halted just before their lips met and held herself there, allowing him to feel the warmth of her breath brushing his face but nothing else. He smiled and wrapped his arms around her, sliding his hands up her back, grateful for the simple pleasure of her closeness.
"I won't tell if you won't," she whispered.
"Well, if you promise," he said, his breath quickening on the end of the sentence as she pressed her mouth to his. For a while, he lost himself in the kiss, aware only of the warm fullness of her lips. Then he drew back gently, reluctantly opening his eyes. "Wait a second. What if Ani wakes up while we're gone?"
"The whole family's here," she laughed. "Ani can't sneeze without four people offering him a tissue."
"All right," he chuckled, then leaned forward again, unable to resist the temptation to steal another kiss.
"So where do you think we should hide?" she asked, tracing his lower lip with the tip of her finger.
"I think I have an idea," he replied, stepping back to take her by the hand.
They snuck, giggling and shushing each other, through the retreat house, managing to avoid both the servants and her mother by ducking back into shadow-filled corners twice before making it to the doors. Once there, they burst out into the sun-filled afternoon, laughing with a giddy relief that they knew was entirely ridiculous. Padme flung her arms around his neck, and he lifted her smoothly off the ground, spinning her in his arms.
"We made it!" she exclaimed.
"Not yet," he shook his head, glancing back over his shoulder with a show of concern. "They could still spot us from the windows."
"What do we do?" she laughed.
"We'll have to run for it!" he told her, grabbing her hand again and pulling her toward the docks.
They didn't slow down until they reached the lakefront, then let themselves come to a gradual halt as they reached Paddy's speeder boat. Gasping for breath, Padme threw her arms around him again, and he hugged her tightly.
"You think we're safe?" she whispered against his shoulder.
"For the moment," he nodded.
They stood there for a while, taking pleasure in simple tactile contact and the warm, fragrant breeze on their skin. Then they separated, linked hands again and stood looking out at the peacefully rippling lake. The sun reflected off the water, creating a perfect pattern of swirling light--perfect, that was, until Padme bent to pick up a stone from the pier and tossed it casually into the water, breaking the molten ripples into dozens of discordant yellow streaks. A few droplets splashed back toward them, splattering in Obi Wan's face, and he flinched involuntarily.
"What are you afraid of?" she laughed affectionately. "It's just water."
"Well, I don't want to get wet," he said.
"Oh…?" she turned to face him with a raised eyebrow and disentangled her fingers from his.
His eyes widened. "No. Padme…"
She grinned evilly and took a menacing step. He backed off, coming dangerously close to the edge of the pier as he did so, but he had a Jedi's perfect balance and hovered easily on the end of the last plank. She sprang forward, wrapping both her arms and legs around him as their bodies collided, and gasped in amazement a few seconds later when she found the two of them hovering above the water.
"Now what are you going to do?" her husband grinned, quite casually clasping his arms around her back to support her.
"You can't keep this up forever," she laughed.
"Can't I?" he challenged.
"No. Especially if I do this!" she declared, pressing her lips to his with an ardent fierceness which caught him entirely off guard. They plummeted downward, breaking the kiss as the icy shock of the water struck. They swam apart as the water enveloped them, and broke the surface again a few seconds later, both laughing and gasping for breath.
Padme lifted her streaming hair from her eyes and grinned. "You're wet!"
"So are you!" Obi Wan laughed.

The Problem With Scoundrels
"Han?" Leia ducked inside the Falcon's open hatch and immediately heard a cacophony of clattering, banging and cursing. Glancing around, she saw neither Han nor Chewie, but this didn't particularly surprise her. What caught her off guard was the fact that the noise didn't seem to be coming from they hyperdrive compartment or any of the maintenance hatches. Frowning, she made her way inside and found him in the lounge section of the main hold. He was on his knees between the holotable and the couch, muttering curses under his breath.
"Han!"
He jerked upright, banging his head on the edge of the table as he did so. Wincing painfully, he raised a hand to the side of his head and turned toward her. "What??"
"What are you doing?" she demanded.
"What's it look like?" he retorted.
"It looks like you're crawling around on the floor," she sighed.
"Well, there ya go," he said.
"Right. Why are you crawling on the floor?" she rolled her eyes.
"I'm looking for something," he said evasively.
"What?"
"Nothing," he replied, pushing himself to his feet. He brushed past her into the hall without another word, and Leia raised her eyes to the ceiling. Whirling around, she followed him as he stalked his way back to his quarters, where she leaned in the doorway while he ransacked the room and finally ended up back on his knees, peering under the bunk.
"All right," she sighed finally. "I'm not even going to ask."
"Good," he snapped without looking.
"You do remember we had a date tonight, don't you?" she asked, pressing the heel of her hand against her forehead.
"Huh?" he twisted abruptly to face her. "Oh! Oh, right. Well, listen--go outside and wait for me, huh? I'll be right there."
Leia shook her head in disgust. "Forget it, Han."
She turned and strode back out of the ship, her footsteps clanging loudly on the ramp as she descended to the landing platform. Outside, the blue sky was deepening toward sunset and she let out sigh that was at once frustrated and sad. She still sometimes missed the sunset on Alderaan, the majestic beauty of the mountains--so many other things, all of which suddenly seemed to crowd into her thoughts, demanding attention.
"Hey," Han called from behind her, and the princess furtively wiped a tear from her eye.
"Did you find what you were looking for?" she asked without turning around.
"Yeah," he replied as he walked down beside her. "Was in my pocket."
"That's great," she shook her head, trying desperately to stay angry.
He touched her arm, offering a winning smile as she turned to face him. Reaching into his vest pocket, he casually pulled out a thin gold chain and let it dangle from his fingers, allowing the diamonds and emeralds on the pendant to catch the last rays of the sun. Then he stepped around behind her and silently draped the necklace over her head.
"What's this?" she stared down at it in surprise.
"It's a present," he said.
"What's it for?" she asked.
"What?" I'm not allowed to give you presents?"
"Of course you are," she sighed. "But you usually have a reason."
He turned his head to brush his lips against her ear. "I'm a nice guy, Princess."

Inquiring Minds
The team was being chased through a field of giant blueberries by a humongous dandelion with teeth when the scent of fresh coffee began to waft through the air. Daniel felt his shoulder being shaken and abruptly found himself back in his office. Slowly, he lifted his head from his arms, squinting in attempt to bring his vision into focus. Sam smiled down at him, wordlessly offering a Styrofoam cup.
"Thanks," he mumbled sleepily as he took it.
"Have a nice nap?" her smile widened into a grin.
He frowned ponderously for a second, then took a careful sip of the steaming liquid. Closing his eyes with relish, he replied, "Not really."
"Why not?" Sam asked, turning to sit on the edge of his desk.
"Well, let's just say that by waking me up you saved us all from being eaten by a flower," Daniel replied.
"That must've been some dream," Sam remarked.
Daniel nodded, then frowned again. "Although, I'd have to say that stranger things have happened to us."
"Sure have," Sam hid a smirk behind her coffee cup as she took a sip.
"What…?" Daniel asked.
"Nothing," she shrugged innocently.
Too innocently. He narrowed his eyes. "What?"
"Well, I was just thinking. You never did tell me exactly how you ended up naked in General O'Neill's closet," she said casually.
His mouth popped open. "Um…y'know, Sam, I--I--really don't--um--"
"You know, the flag thing?" she prompted.
"Yeah, I know," he said. "I just--um. Don't…"
"What?" she asked.
"…Know."
"You don't know?" she repeated.
"Well, look, I--I was dead. Oma wanted to help me Ascend again, and there was this diner…" he trailed off, wrinkling his brow.
"Diner?" Sam raised her eyebrows in surprise.
"Well, it came from my mind. My grandfather took me there after my parents died. Y'know, this sounds as strange as that dream already," he sighed.
"Were you naked in the diner?" she wanted to know.
"No…" he pulled his lip thoughtfully.
"So you weren't Ascended yet, and you had clothes. Where'd they go?" she persisted.
"I dunno. Maybe--maybe I really didn't have clothes. The whole place was created from imagery that the Ancients found in my mind. Maybe I only had clothes because I thought I had them," he suggested, feeling his face grow hotter with ever word.
"So you were naked but you didn't know you were naked?" asked Sam.
Daniel ran a hand over his face. "Maybe."
"Well, if you were dead, you still didn't have a body," she pointed out.
"So?"
"So, when they gave you a body again so that you could return to this plane of existence, they could have given you clothes," she told him.
"Maybe they just have a really sick sense of humor," he sighed.
"All right, Daniel. So, answer me one more question then," she snickered.
"What's that?"
"Why General O'Neill's closet?"

History Repeats
Daniel walked out onto the porch in his bare feet. The sun had been shining and the wooden planks were warm against his skin. From the side of the house, he could hear Nicky and Manda both yelling, but the shouts were mixed with happy shrieks and laughter, so he assumed that no one was trying to kill anyone yet. A small smile played across his lips as he sank onto one of the white lounge chairs. Swinging his legs into it, he spotted his grandfather's worn blue leather eyeglass case on the railing beside him.
He wondered briefly where Nick had gotten to, then heard the older man's voice coming from somewhere in the yard. Nicky and Manda both let loose with a chorus of "Grandpa Nick! You're safe! You made it!" and their father frowned, cocking his head to one side. He listened to the discussion for a few moments, then shook his head and picked up the book that he'd left on the low table next to his chair. Apparently, the back yard, which was normally the Jackson family archaeological dig site was doubling as the Peruvian jungle today. The party had gotten separated at some point, Nick having been chased through the trees by some mysterious creature while Manda and Nicky made it safely back to camp.
Daniel smiled again. After the sporadic and often tense relationship that he'd had with his grandfather, he hardly would have believed that Nick would come to play such an important role in his children's lives. He also could not imagine his family any other way. Nick had returned about the same time that Manda was born, and he had been with Vala two years later when Nicky came along. Both children had a unique and enduring bond with their great-grandfather, the kind of relationship that Daniel had only wished for. Watching them together had gone a long way toward finally smoothing the remaining tensions between the two men.
He listened to the game for a few more minutes, then let his attention finally drift to his book. It didn't stay there long, though. The warmth of the sun on his shoulders and the pleasant background noise of his children's laughter lent to a peaceful lethargy. He found himself floating toward sleep and for once was not inclined to resist. Resting the open book on his chest, he removed his glasses and carefully set them on the table.
He spent the rest of the afternoon dozing and didn't rouse until Vala's voice called them all in for dinner. Even then, he didn't move right away, content to stay in the warm landscape of the world between sleep and waking. Nick and the kids came clomping up the steps and passed him without comment, but suddenly his grandfather stopped.
"Wait a moment, where did I leave my glasses?" he asked.
Daniel's eyes popped open in time to see his daughter spot them on the railing. He hurriedly sat up. "They're--"
"Oh, right here, Grandpa Nick," Manda said, dashing to get them. Her knee landed on the table before Daniel could stop her, and he heard a familiar crunch as she knelt to reach Nick's case. She froze for a second, then hurriedly backed off, glancing down at the table.
Daniel closed his eyes. "Manda."
"Oops," she said. He silently opened his eyes again and found her holding up the mangled frame. She held it out to him with an apologetic smile. "Found yours, too, Dad."

When the Cold Sets In
Her favorite color was blue like the sky as it deepened toward twilight. How and when he'd learned that, he wasn't sure. She couldn't sleep with her feet uncovered, and she got goosebumps if someone read over her shoulder. Her hair was always soft and fragrant because she refused to leave it unwashed even for a night. He closed his eyes against the memory, trying not to feel again the softness of her skin in his dream. A moment later, he opened them again and pushed himself up on his elbow to peer at the clock on the bedside table.
Midnight. Only midnight?
He let himself sink slowly back down onto the pillows and pulled the covers tighter around himself. He was hoping that it would make the bed feel less empty, but it didn't. He gave a quiet sigh and closed his eyes again, willing sleep to come. It wouldn't.
Finally, reluctantly, he reached for the phone. It rang twice before he heard the crackle and clatter of someone fumbling in the dark. After a few seconds, there was a sleepy mumble.
"Hello…?"
"Did I wake you up again?" he asked apologetically.
"It's midnight," came the reply.
"Right. Sorry."
"What's wrong, Daniel?"
"I miss her," he said simply.
It was all he need to say. The team was his family. And he was theirs. He was one of them. This was where he belonged now.
Okay, that's it for requests for now. Sarah, I'm still working on yours. Since it's Bloodkinverse, I have to flock the post anyway, so I was going to post it separately. At the moment, anything in that particular 'verse seems to be like pulling teeth to write, but I'll get it posted for you soon.
Also have a couple of other claim fics. After writing that last one, I got a bit of a bug. One of the things that always struck me as off/annoying was the way Sha're was written out of the show. I know that there were reasons for the character's death, but given the fact that she was Daniel's wife and the entire motivation for his joining SG-1, it bothers me that after Forever In A Day, there is almost no mention of her. (Don't even get me started on the horribly bad taste of airing Past and Present only an episode later.)
I know I've mentioned before how much I love the friendship between Jack and Daniel, because it reminds me very much of my own relationships with my two best friends. So, I did a couple of short friendship fics set late s3 dealing with that friendship as it relates to Sha're. The title of Returning a Favor is a loose movie ref, but it doesn't matter if you haven't seen the film. Silence turned out to be more of a team friendship than just Jack and Daniel, but I really like it regardless.

Silence
The briefing dragged on, but nothing Hammond said actually got through. Daniel was writing something on yellow lined page in front of him, but he isn't sure what it is. Glancing down at it, he realized that it looked vaguely like a seagull, and he had to smile. He'd always wanted to take her to the beach. There weren't beaches on Abydos. The only ocean was an endless, dusty, gritty sea of sand. It got everywhere. He could still feel it sometimes, still taste it.
Sometimes, he could still taste her. He could still feel her in his dreams. He held back a sigh and reached up under his glasses to rub his eyes with the tips of his fingers. It looked like this was going to be a bad day. Drawing in a slow breath, he forced himself to focus on the discussion around him, but he quickly realized that it was too late. He'd missed to much already.
Fortunately, the briefing ended a few minutes later. Hammond dismissed them, and after a brief moment of shuffling paperwork and scraping chairs, the four members of SG-1 rose from the table. Daniel wandered over to the coffee and poured himself another cup. Sam followed, her hand lightly squeezing his shoulder as she stopped beside him. Teal'c appeared on his other side, also saying nothing. Daniel finished with the coffee and poured for the Jaffa, but he already knew that Teal'c wasn't there for coffee.
He bowed his head in acknowledgement, then waited for Sam to finish adding cream and sugar to her mug. Then they both disappeared without a word, slipping out of the briefing room together. Jack was still sitting idly at the table, his chin planted on his fist as he studied the doodle that Daniel had made earlier. He frowned, obviously not sure what it was, but he didn't ask. Daniel smiled faintly and slid into the chair beside his friend. It was still going to be a rough day, but both of them had been through rough days before.

Returning A Favor
He waited until he was alone and took down the photo. Then he stood there for a while, staring down at it before he trudged back to his desk. Sprawling into the chair, he held the picture in front of his face, studying it for a long time. It seemed entirely wrong to him that a black and white image was all that remained of Sha're. She had always been so vibrant. She had been utterly alive, not in a loud or spectacular way but with a quiet depth of emotion and strength of purpose that colored everything she did. She was innocent and full of wonder, but she was also a realist. The harshness of life on Abydos had infused her with a determination and fierceness which had honestly taken Daniel by surprise when he first saw it.
He had always believed that strength would give Sha're the edge she needed in order to survive as host to Ammaunet. He'd always believed that the team would one day be able to find her and free her from the Goa'uld. In fact, that had been his quest. He'd returned to Earth with Jack and Sam for one reason--because by doing so, he might be able to find and save his wife. He knew that she still wanted him to travel through the Stargate as part of SG-1, carrying on the fight against the symbiotic beings which had enslaved so many.
Even knowing that, though, all he felt was the keen edge of his own failure twisting and turning in his gut. He would do what she wanted, of course, but a slithering fear whispered in his mind, feeding on his guilt and self-blame. He couldn't save his own wife. Who was he to think that he could save anyone else?
"You didn't fail her, Daniel," Jack said from the doorway.
He jerked his head up, blinking in surprise. "Thought you left."
"Not yet," the Colonel shook his head. Still leaning on the doorframe, he continued, "You're gonna feel like that for a while, but you didn't. Sooner or later, you're gonna have to believe that. The guilt will kill you."
Daniel smiled faintly, "And I still have something to live for."

He turned his head to brush his lips against her ear. "I'm a nice guy, Princess."

I love your Han/Leia. And who hasn't lost something just to find its right there.
I love how Sam keeps trying to get Daniel to blush even harder. It was probably best it was Jack's office closet or else he'd end up in Siler's office or something and that may cause too much of a shock:)
LOL..I'm sorry but I had visions of Vala when Manda broke Daniel's glasses. I love that drabble, both with the relationship between Daniel and Nick being fixed, and Manda and Nick II playing jungle with thier grandfather.
Sad fic. For me it was Sha're with Jack on the other line, possibly Sam. I had a moment of thinking of Vala but for some reason Sha;re stuck in my head. And Jack or Sam would be the one he'd call. I have a feeling for Vala it would have been Cam. Teal'c for both during the day if they needed someone to listen.
I never liked how they put "Past and Present" beside Forever and a Day either. I could only assume that we are supposed to think that because Sha're died so recently that Daniel's looking subconciously for a replacement for her and that's why he's so adament about her. Because usually he has some kind of relucantcy if he doesn't know them well, the only exception I can remember is the Russian Colonel who he was flirting with but that went no where and Kira.
I liked the relationship between Jack and Daniel in the two post FaaD stories. Jack knew when he needed to just be there and when he needed to say something. And you explained Daniel's thoughts well I thought.
no subject
Yeah, the parallel between Manda and Vala with the glasses was intentional. *g*
For me it is Sha're and Jack in the sad fic, and you're right about the Kira thing, I think. Gah. That just bugs me.
Thanks about the last two. It really means a lot to me to be able to portray Jack and Daniel well. It's such an awesome friendship and one of the main reasons I got into SG-1 when I first watched it.

I agree about Jack and Daniel. Probably the same reason I like John and Rodney's relationship. They have an dynamic that is just fun to watch/read.
I really need to get back to writing SG-1 again. *sigh*
The whole P&P episode annoyed me in general.

I'm still only dabbling in SG-1. Stuff like this and Games is all I can do at the moment, but it's helping me remember why I love this show.

*Snerk* Poor Han! It was in his pocket all along. (What have you got in your pockets, indeed! *Snerk*) Of course it was. And by the time he found it, he almost needed to have something to give to Leia, to make up for hurting her feelings again, even if he didn't mean to.
*Coughs* WHY Jack's closet, indeed. *Laughs helplessly*
That's cute, about the kids and the glasses. I'm a wee bit lost, you understand, because I'm behind on SG, but it's nice to think of Daniel's grandpa finally making himself available as a real family member. And of COURSE it would be Daniel's reading glasses that god broken!
I really want to cuddle Danny in the next one. I'm sure Jack will talk him through the worst, but still . . . poor Danny! I always felt awful, over the way they killed off poor Sha're.
*Loves how the team are all there for Danny*
I have this urge to tell Daniel to listen to Jack, because he knows what he's talking about.

Well, that's a shame. You know, if there's any one major gripe I have with that show, it's the way it tends to write people out of existence after their episodes are over. It's like, once they're gone (whether they've gone to another world or even died), they're not supposed to exist in the minds of the other characters any more, or something. It's rather bloody annoying, if you ask me. We don't stop thinking about people, just because we don't see them every day.
no subject
I agree with you. Danny does a heck of a lot more thinking about Sha're in my fics than he ever was shown to be doing on screen. And I really thought Nick deserved another episode. They laid such good groundwork with him The Crystal Skull. They did a decent job with Jack and Charlie in early seasons, but they kind of dropped the ball with that, too. You know, this makes me want to write a fic about Sam and Jacob.
By the way, I was going through my email inbox this morning and I think I accidentally deleted some of the emails from your comments that I hadn't replied to yet, so there might be a few broken threads of conversation.
I just finished a very Dune-esque chapter of One Path, following up on the Vader conversation between Isaly and Ani from yesterday, but I think I need to talk to Aruna before posting it.
That reminds me--was going to ask Aruna, too, but she's not here. How much time did Luke ACTUALLY spend on Dagobah with Yoda in canon?
no subject
Danny thinks and he remembers - that's essentially what he does for a living. To have him seem to just forget about anyone who's impacted on him in a meaningful fashion (whether for good or for ill) makes about as much sense as expecting a computer to randomly misplace files (when there's no human error or nasty bug involved to explain the missing data). It felt a little like they got tired of Charlie and just decided enough was enough one day, didn't it? *Sigh* And it really upset me to see the way they kind of just dropped Jacob, as a character, after they went to all that trouble to save him. Write it and I know I'd read it, if only because I get tired of the characters who show up and then vanish without any real rhyme or reason.
Eh, s'okay. I don't think I was saying all that much of anything terribly important, if it was something recent but not today recent.
*Loves Dune, loved that conversation, and hopes to see the chapter soon because she is a greedy impatient fangirl*
You know, I'm not sure if they ever really state exactly how much time Luke is on Dagobah, come to think of it. He arrives after the Battle of Hoth, which is in 3 ABY, and doesn't make it back until 4 ABY, but that's more an indication of how much time it takes to actually track down and rescue Han in between the end of TESB and the start of RotJ than anything else. (They spend most of a year chasing after Boba Fett, trying to rescue Han before he can hand him over to Jabba, and slowly finding out about a second Death Star that's under construction.) I've always assumed it couldn't have been much more a full month, though, if even that, because there's really only so much time that Han could have hung around hiding in that asteroid field, they end up going from there straight to Cloud City, and they aren't on Bespin for long before Lando has to turn them over to Vader. Granted, their journey to Cloud City might've taken quite a bit longer than it normally would've, because of their engine problems, but I have a hard time trying to justify the passage of too much time, given that no one else from the Rebellion was worried enough about Leia's lack of appearance at the rendezvous point to send people out hunting for her and Han. The movie skims over the time as if it were only a matter of days, but considering the amount of progress Luke does make, I want to say he has to have been there for at least a couple of weeks. Does that help at all? Most of the four + years that passe in between ANH and RotJ passes in the EU, not in the actual canon.
no subject
Thanks, that's exactly where my confusion was about Dagobah vs. when Lando has to hand them over in the Cloud City. I mean, the movie makes it look like it all happened in a few days, yet Luke makes tremendous progress.
no subject
I think most of the time that passes, on Han and Leia's end of things, probably is in between the sceens, as they're skulking about the outskirts of the Hoth system, trying not to get caught, and then on the way to Bespin and Cloud City, with the rather less than optimally functional engines on the Falcon. It's just not as visually interesting to see all of that time passing while they're hiding or in transit, so they skim over most of it. Given Luke's extreme improvement (and what has always seemed to me as a slight but noticeable change in his overall physique), I'd guess he's there for at least a couple of weeks to a month, and if you're going to try to shadow Luke's truncated stay with Yoda you should be safe with a timeframe like that. Just remember to stress that the Falcon is damaged and that they did a lot more hiding and waiting (and then had to wait until they could time their escape just so, so that their persuers didn't notice them as they slipped off to limp their way to Bespin.
no subject
As far as Dagobah and the Falcon, that's pretty much what I'd planned, but I guess I need another brain sometimes to check things with and make sure that what works for me as a writer is going to make sense to another fan--especially one with more knowledge of the fandom than I have. I'm a lot more confident in my ability to get SG-1 right than SW, actually. But then my SG-1 fic doesn't usually attempt to re-tell episodes... *ponders*
no subject
*Nods* It's always nice to be able to run something by somebody else. Especially when you're trying to work more closely within the framework of an established storyline. I think that's probably what makes the SW more challenging. With SG-1, unless you're filling in missing lines scenes with an episode, there's more room to write around what's established without having to worry about accidentally contridicting specific details of an episode.
no subject
That's exactly the difference between SG-1 and SW for me. The movies are...done, and I'm writing IN as well as BETWEEN them, plus there has been so much work done in the EU to create an actual galaxy that there's a lot more to mess up. In SG-1 we have wormhole physics to deal with, and established details about certain races and planets, but in large part it's easier to write because the characters are from an earth very much like mine and I'm writing mostly between the episodes. Even when I'm not, it's still very much more open because the premise of SG-1 is exploration and discovery of NEW planets and cultures.
no subject
*Nods* SG-1 reminds me a lot of what was really good about ST, when it comes to exploration and discovery and establishing diplomatic relations. I hate to say it, but SW is more about surviving in the midst of wartime situations and trying to help save as many good people as possible than it is about trying to bring different people together peacefully. Sure, SG-1 has its bad guys (as does ST), but the bad guys haven't taken over the galaxy or started a bitter galactic-wide civil war, and that tends to change things a lot.
