...the plot monster would bite me...
*sigh* the A/C guy is finally gone. I've been waiting for him all day and then they get here, and somehow my window screen is broken or something, so they have to go get a new one. Then they finally get back to take the stupid A/C out and the guy starts telling me his life story...

My brain came up with banners for my vampire story last night. Only a few people will actually have a clue what they're all about, but *shrug*. We can thank
cha_aka for inspiring me to dust off Gurad again. Her marvelous original fic, Definition, which is completely unrelated, btw, has somehow caused a re-emergence of a character who's been hanging around in my brain for something like fifteen years.
I am telling you, dear flist. I haven't gone out of my way to read anything about vampires in years and I love Definition. You must. read. this. story. You'll find it here:
Definition Part 1// Definition Part 2
My own vampire story is in a rather plotless stage, so I am now going to ramble about it, trying to help myself. I'll cut for those who don't care. Writers out there...heh. I wouldn't mind some imput/feedback if you have time. I hate the plotless stage.
Well, I've pretty much decided that the story's going to open with Bethany waking up in the bedroom. Tom's there, and they have a kind of "what's your deal, anyway, old man?" conversation about why he doesn't like/trust Gurad.
Brain thinks Tom should die at some point and Steve
A) inherits all his hunting stuff
B) has issues and says, "A hunter shouldn't die like that...in his sleep? It's just inherently wrong." and then goes on to reveal stuff about his past and how Tom gave him something else to be besides a vandal and a petty criminal. I'm not sure if he's talking to Cass or Gurad when he says this stuff. I could go either way with it, because I've established how close Cass and Steve are, but I also need to establish a developing bond of friendship between Steve and Fangs that doesn't ALWAYS center on having a vampiric threat to fight. Ooh...maybe he says the first part to Gurad and walks off, and Cass finds him and he says the rest to her? *ponders*
I have two random scenes to write centered around fighting... *sigh* I hate fight scenes. God only knows why I'm inspired to write this stuff where there just needs to be fighting if it's going to be credible.
A) was supposed to have been included in the ending of Rain, but the scene ended FAR differently than I thought it would. Gurad's injured badly...like badly enough that he can't move, and they've got someone or something about to "come back". Steve is like *SIGH* cuts his wrist, and lets Fangs drink, and he's like, "Eh...I owed you a drink," referring to the bar scene from Rain.
B) is something where I guess Gurad must have been captured for some length of time and couldn't feed. Steve and Nilla rescue him, and he vamps on Steve, so then Steve backs off, and he's there holding his crossbow on Gurad going, "Fangs...you don't wanna kill me. Okay, yes you do. But--uh--" *looks at Nilla* and Nilla goes, "You'll regret it in the morning?" and Steve's like, "He won't be AWAKE in the morning..." so Nilla's like, "What, you wanna be nitpicky now?" Then it goes serious again and Steve's like, "Good point..." *turns back to Gurad* "I'm gonna put this bow down now, okay?". Gurad kind of snarls incoherently and poofs or leaves somehow, then they don't see him for a few nights.
Maybe there are reports of "the vigilante" actually killing criminals after that? If so, there'd really be no way to divert attention from how the "victims" were killed. I didn't want to have to deal with public awareness of the vamps' existence, but it would give me a plot.
A) The rest of the vampires would be mad at Gurad for drawing that kind of attention. I'd have to create another vamp antagonist, though, I guess since Darius is dead. The only way to bring him back would be cloning, and I really don't want to get into that, I don't think. Sofia would probably go after Gurad, too, and try to get him to renew their old alliance.
B) There'd have to be some kind of investigation, and therefore the requisite annoying police investigator type...who would, admittedly, have a valid problem if Gurad was killing again.
C) It probably wouldn't take more than a day for Gurad to get himself under control again, but then he'd probably like go into hiding or something because he was ashamed. So, he'd have Conclave vamps coming for him, Sofia being...Sofia...and the cops on his trail. Steve, Beth, and Nilla would then have to find and rescue him again?
D) That still leaves me with the questions of how things get wrapped up. I don't want a long term vampire scare thing going on, but by the time Gurad would be able to hypnotize anyone involved with the police investigation, there would probably be too many people who'd seen something (coroners, other cops, etc) for him to be able to make everyone forget. Even if the rest of the Conclave vampires helped in that department, there would be no way for them to even be sure who had seen what. ack. *thinks*
Well...look at that. I've actually got the beginning of a plot now. There are still some major problems I need to work out.
A) Who captured Gurad in the first place and how did they hold him prisoner?
B) WHY did they hold him prisoner rather than kill him?
C) The aforementioned wrap up problem
But, it's a start anyway...
Oh, those banners I mentioned.

Sarah says Remiel doesn't look quite vampiric enough in the Gurad one. *sigh* The others are pretty good though. Yes, I did use Jessica Biel as Nilla. No, the story is not a Blade Trinity fanfiction. It has nothing to do with the Nightstalkers. Nilla's not even a vampire hunter. The actress just worked.
Also, on a completely unrelated note. Got this link from
nekkidchick. Light A Million Candles. Child abuse of any kind is a sensitive subject for me. I always kind of wince whenever anyone well-meaning sends me links, but I liked this. Think I'll end up putting it on my sidebar. It only takes a second, guys. Go light a candle.
