...I was in a better mood...
This seems to be the series for "No idea where this came from." But this is the end of my Atlantis series, The Promise of Thorns. Before anyone sends hate-mail, he will get his sight back in the crossover series. I even think I know how...heh.
Part 1: Hands
Part 2: The Final Rose.
Part 3: Fight or Flight
Part 4: The Gauntlet
Part 5: The Art
Title: I Just Know
Author: Lionchilde
Summary: AU There are some things Shep still takes for granted...
Rating: G
Length: About 400 words
Pairings/Characters: Sparky.
Genres: Romance/Humor
A/N: This is part 5 of the AU series The Promise of Thorns. It takes place about 3 after the events in The Return Part 1; incidentally the same year that Daniel and Vala's daughter was born in Rediscovered Hearts. (That will become relevant in later fics, as I'm planning a crossover.)
I Just Know
"You know what it made me realize?" John asked quietly. His arm slid automatically around Elizabeth as they walked, and a faint smile touched his lips. His first offworld mission since losing his sight hadn't gone smoothly. Trade negotiations with the locals had broken down, Rodney had been shot in the backside again, and a warlord with a fancy energy-shooting sword thing had taken a liking to Teyla. Ronon, of course hadn't been pleased. Chaos ensued until Teyla herself bested the guy in formal combat, conveniently impressing each of the other three tribal leaders into returning to the trade discussions.
"Mmm-mmm," Elizabeth's head moved in a negative shake against his shoulder.
"There are still things I take for granted," he said. "Things I just…know. Guess it's human nature or something."
"What kind of things?" she asked curiously.
He shrugged. "Like Rodney's always gonna be a pain out there, no matter what we're doing. Ronon's always got my back. Teyla can get the two of us out of whatever mess we make. You'll be here when we get back. But then I was thinking--what if you weren't?"
"Where would I go?" Elizabeth asked lightly.
"I dunno. Maybe some handsome alien prince comes while we're offworld and sweeps you off your feet. Takes you back to his planet and plies you with gold and jewels," he replied.
"I don't think it would work," she said.
"It might," he asserted. "Then the team and I would have to 'gate over there, shoot our way into his palace thing…"
"Really, John, couldn't you at least try negotiating first?" she laughed.
"Nah. Much more romantic this way," he shook his head.
"Romantic! How is this in any way romantic?" Elizabeth exclaimed.
"Because. Once we get through the guards and find you, that's when I ask you to marry me," John explained.
"And I say yes?" Elizabeth asked teasingly.
"Course," he nodded.
"Are you sure? How do you know I haven't fallen hopelessly in love with the prince?" she challenged.
"I just know," he waved his hand dismissively.
"Another thing you're taking for granted?" she asked, pausing in their walk along the shore. Her hands drifted up to tease the sides of his face and he smiled.
"So, will you marry me?" he asked.
"Of course," she said as her breath touched his face. As their lips met, he could feel her smile, and promised himself that there would always be at least one thing he didn't take for granted.
Also, I'm feeling kinda down today, so I made a small set of faith-based text icons for myself. Thought I'd share.
