The Apple and the Tree
Daniel's eyes fairly popped out of his head at the sight of his daughter. Manda breezed into the kitchen, grabbed a banana from the counter, and then paused to peck his cheek. "Morning, Daddy. I'm late, gotta run or I'll miss the bus again."
"Hold it!" Daniel ordered, his hand snapping out to grab her wrist and pull her back.
"What?" she asked with a doe-eyed innocence easily worthy of her mother.
"Where did you even get something like that?" he demanded, glaring at the tight-fitting black leather dress.
"I borrowed it from Mother!" Manda exclaimed.
Daniel's mouth popped open, then worked silently for several seconds. Finally, he managed, "Just--just--just put a sweater on!"
"Sure," Manda grinned as Vala came into the room. "Mom, can I borrow one of your leather jackets?"
"No! Those are even worse than her dresses--I mean--uh…" Daniel broke off as his wife's eyes narrowed dangerously. He forced a smile and gulped. "More lovely."
Vala grinned, slipping a hand onto their daughter's shoulder. "Come on, darling, I know just the one. Don't listen to your father. He's just upset because I didn't wear that dress out with him last week."
Daniel gaped again, shaking his head as they walked off. "Why did I even start this conversation?" he muttered, running a hand over his face.

Manda's lucky she's got someone like Vala for a mom. If I did that, Mom wouldn't stick up for me and Dad would pretty much kill me. lol.
