Every winter, starting in about mid January, when the holidays are over, the snow is dirty, gray, packed high and icy so all it's good for is impeding movement, causing accidents and looking dreary, but it still keeps COMING, and I can't go anywhere anyway because it's cold enough to kill, I start to ask myself why I continue to live in New Hampshire. I don't see my family any more often now than I would if I lived out of state, and only one of my close friends is still here.

Then the weather warms up, and I remember. I was talking to a friend last night about the White Mountains, and she'd never seen them, so I started looking around for pictures. Of course then I started remembering other places or specific landmarks and started looking for pics of those. This first post is just a general bunch of pics of locations in the White Mountains, most that I've just found on the net and had on my computer. No infringement of anyone's copyright is intended. The only artist whose name I'm sure of is nature photographer Michael Bannon

Note that these posts are really not dial-up friendly. Sorry, folks.

Before I continue with the picspam, I found a little something that may help those of you who don't live in the north understand what I'm talking about when I say SNOW.

Some of these are in the Whites. Some are not. I won't bore you with long descriptions. Dammit, Jim, I'm a writer, not a nature guide!

Okay, that's it for now. It's by no means an exhuastive showing of the landmarks in NH, just some I happened to think of. Anybody who wants others, feel free to comment.

The Pumpkin Fest pics are here because it's a cool local tradition. They are not an invitation for debate about Halloween. If you don't like them, don't look.
