Shortly after this movie hit the video store, my doctor called me. I'm not kidding. She was like, "We saw this movie yesterday that made me think of you. I can't remember the name, but the polar caps had melted and there were these people on a boat trying to find..."

And I'm like "Oh, WATERWORLD."

So yes. It is one of mine. I guess it's one of those things that falls into the category of "I love it anyway."

Meaning, essentially, if you don't have a high opinion of this film, I've probably heard your objections a hundred times.

More Waterworld icons. Some are kind of weird now that I look at them again. I was trying to get the coloring right for the claim set below.

This movie is really special to me. Making these icons brought back a lot of memories. I would also have claimed Dances With Wolves, but I don't have caps yet. To my long long lost friend Chrissy, if you're out there somewhere in LJ land, these icons are dedicated to you.

Too tired to go back and add the themes into the icon table. The themed icons are the first 50, in order. The full themes list is at the bottom of the page, under the table. Enjoy.

Superman I, post 3. This is really it, I swear. Sorry again for the number of posts tonight. I did these basically because I kept being inspired by caps that didn't fit my claims over about a 3 or 4 night period when I couldn't seem to write. I wanted to post them all together so it would be easier to link the posts without making a new tag that will like probably never get used again.

Summit, post 2 for [livejournal.com profile] sg_100.

135 more under the cut. If you don't get the "my parents are home" thing...well...the truth is, I don't think you'd really want to know. *hugs Goa'uld voices*

[livejournal.com profile] aruna7 asked for some Summit/Last Stand icons so I claimed both eps. Gonna split up the posts to make it more dial up friendly. I think it'll be 3 posts total. 2 for Summit, 1 for Last Stand.

Superman II--For [livejournal.com profile] iconic_ships. Will have more from the entire movie later tonight. These are Lois/Clark. Some of these do look similar since I pretty much iconned ALL the shippy scenes, but if you look close, you'll see the only ones I used the same cap for was the sleeping scene and a few from when he first brings her to the Fortress. The rest are all different though many are from the same scenes.

204 under the cut.

I mentioned last week that I had a ton of icons to post, but I haven't felt like uploading or posting anything this week. So, more old icons are forthcoming. I do also have 3 sets of claim icons that need to go up so I'm doing those tonight. If I feel like it, I'll also post some of the old ones I mentioned finding on my hard drive. Various fandoms on those.

One of my childhood memories is watching Superman I on TV at my grandmother's house. I don't know how old I was, but we moved when I was 7, so I couldn't have been much older than that. I think the Krypton and Fortress scenes enthralled me almost as much as Arrakis did when I watched Dune at Rene's. (I wrote about that when I posted my Dune claim icons.) Then at some point, my parents actually took my brother, sister, and I to the drive in to watch Superman III. I also used to watch the old George Reeves Superman with my Dad, so the Man of Steel and I have a long history.

I like every film and television incarnation of Superman, but I think that since Christopher Reeve was my introduction to the legend, he will always "be" Superman to me. Superman II is my favorite (Fortess...Krypton...shippy Clark/Lois goodness...is anyone surprised here? Yes I AM this bad.) Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] stormtrooperjoe commented on my Jor-El icon, which reminded me that I'd never finished iconning these movies. So, I hopped on over to [livejournal.com profile] icons100 and made a claim on the first one. Got finished that and started browsing through caps for Superman II. Ended up claiming Clark and Lois on [livejournal.com profile] iconic_ships for that one. But then I did the whole movie, plus variations on the sleeping scene like crazy. So, I'll also have a couple of insanely large posts on Superman II.

Jor-El is my favorite character, so you'll see a lot of him in the sets from the first movie. I'll have to make an alternate/extra post later, as usual, because I ended up with well over 300 icons from Superman I, and a lot more Jor-El than you see under the cut here. Also, it took some doing, but I finallly came up with a method of lighting Krypton that still makes the icons LOOK like Krypton but makes the characters clearly visible through the weird shadows that drove me up the wall on my last set. Hope you guys like them, and I hope it works as well as I think it does.

*Happy sigh* The only time you can get away with a red, yellow and blue icon table is when you're posting Superman icons.

To those celebrating His birth today, I wish you a happy and blessed Christmas. I got my best Christmas gift a few days ago, getting to hang out with Bradley and Tammy for the day. (*cough* Or, Brad and Auntie Dar getting to drive Tammy crazy.) He's almost seventeen now, which is rather hard to believe. It was great to see him, since I hadn't in so long, and great to discover it's still cool to sing along REALLY loud to the radio and play the "Yes...no...yes...no...did not...did too...did not..." game with me.

I have to say, my second best gift is right up there with the first, even though I only have the draft at the moment. Heh. Unwritten Story, [livejournal.com profile] aruna7 Tru/Sky vid. *hugs Truen tight* *hops and hops and hops* *squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee* *dies* *revives* *dies!* Oh my goodness. Wait. I was just hugging Truen while hopping, squeeing and dying. That means I have died in Truen's arms? LOL.

Oh, and since I'm posting, I have icons. I finished these a couple nights ago. Call it a Christmas gift for the Gaters on my flist. And I really need to make a special dedication to the typoteers, with whom I've spent I don't know how many hours watching, quoting reciting? this episode, and who truly understand the meaning of "Hello, Urgo." The episode that always makes me remember why I love SG-1 first and best of all my fandoms. I claimed it on [livejournal.com profile] sg_100 just because I knew I'd get way more than 100 out of it. Heh. Post 2 will be along shortly. Oh, and extra teasers because it's my journal so I can.

You guys want a laugh? I used the frondesk one on MSN the other day, and my friend, who isn't a Gater, was like, "Um...Frondesk??" So, I'm here like, "See, Jack got his head sucked into this thing..." Anyway, I know I got my episodes crossed on that one. It was The Fifth Race, not Urgo, but with the cap, it was too impossible to resist.

Moving away from my grandparents and the rest of my family when I was seven was really hard on me. Add to that the fact that we moved to another state where my regional accent made me the butt of school jokes, and the fact that I had probably the meanest second grade teacher on earth, and you'll have a pretty clear picture of what was probably the most memorably bad year of my childhood. I switched schools again the following year, so I was prepared for a repeat performance, but things actually got much better. A large part of the reason for that was a certain bus driver I had who, I guess, took a liking to me. He had me over his house, and once invited me for a sleepover with his two daughters who were around my age.

That night, he rented two movies for us. One was The Neverending Story. The second was David Lynch's Dune. Lots of Frank Herbert fans are down on that movie, because time and financial constraints basically required a butchering of the second half of Herbert's magnificent novel. Still, I fell in love with the world of Arrakis through that movie, having no idea that it was so entirely different from the novel. I read the book for the first time when I was around eleven. Any of you who know Herbert will probably have an idea what a testimony that is to my love of all things Dune. I was smart, and my reading comprehension was far above average for my grade level at the time, but had I not already loved Lynch's Dune, I would have been more than a bit lost in the book. The second half was quite a challenge, given how much different it is from the movie.

I now have a tradition of re-reading Dune in the spring/early summer. I don't make it every year, depending on what else I'm reading or doing, but I try. Every year, I seem to find nuances I missed in previous reads. So, I had mixed feelings about the 2000 Scifi miniseries when I heard about it. The little kid who sat entranced with Arrakis during that sleepover night was hopping in excitement. The adult in me, who is seldom ever satisfied with film adaptations of any novel, let alone a novel with so much personal significance, was skeptical to say the least. I watched it with my criticism feelers stretched all the way out, determined to find anything and everything wrong that I could. I won't say the movie was a perfect retelling. It certainly took a few liberties, but I was impressed with how hard everyone seemed to be working to keep the plot intact and portray the many, many layers of the novel in all their richness and intricacy.

So, when I found [livejournal.com profile] a_fallenstar's caps of the miniseries, I couldn't resist a claim on [livejournal.com profile] icons100 despite the fact that I was SUPPOSED to be making Christmas presents. These are mostly hush icons, even on the themes. It just seemed to me that text wasn't necessary. I was also experimenting with multiply and adjustment layers, so I hope you guys enjoy them. I had a great time making these, and I'll be posting more Dune icons as well--most likely after the holidays.

Terrible purpose... )

Okay, I'm debating writing a sequel to the vampire story I wrote last week for Nanowrimo this year. I've never done it before, and I think it could be fun. I'm even starting to develop a plot idea. My only hesitation is that my brain has suddenly kicked into gear with Beyond Breaking (the Rediscovered Hearts sequel) and I can't decide if I should just let it sit until December or what. I've decided that if I do Nanowrimo, I'll be taking a break from fanfic and RP. Anyway, need to decide really soon since I posted on the RP boards already that I'll be taking that break. lol.

It probably will also mean no icons in November, so I hope this post makes up for that. I was looking for pictures of Nick a couple of weeks ago and got the bright idea to claim The Crystal Skull over at [livejournal.com profile] sg_100. Found a really neat way to enhance the neutrino field at the end of the ep when they put the skull back. It turned purple, so of course I had to go completely nuts on those.

I ended up making a lot of cropping variations again; I know people have been using my last couple of sets as bases, which really brings a smile to my face, since I seem to be having a love affair with simple icons. So I thought I'd give you guys some options. Yeah, that and I can never make up my mind which crop looks best. I've also tried to include textless versions of just about all the simple icons that I put text on in the first place. On the more complex ones, I really didn't think anyone would want them as bases, so I didn't bother. I'm going to have to make like 3 posts, so there should be more than enough anyway.

I was really surprised at the amount of Sam/Jack in this ep. There's a ton of Daniel, of course (and Nick! Yay!...although I have to wonder what exactly it is that makes me love Nick so much. I guess it's the grandpa thing, but geez, he was a rotten grandpa to Daniel for most of his life.)

Ok, so...I've been on the waiting list at [livejournal.com profile] 100stargateicon for a while now. The rules say you can start while on the waiting list, just not post them. Well, my claim's due to start tomorrow and I've got a mega-load of icons already made, so I'm just friends locking this post until I officially have the claim. I decided to go experimental with these, loved them when I made them, and now can't stand half of them that I thought were awesome, so I have a bunch of alternate/other Daniel icons to post as well. Also have Legends of the Fall and Dead Poet Society icons to post later. *g*

Character Claimed: Daniel Jackson
Icon Numbers: 1-120/100
Themes Accomplished: All (Icons 1-73)

All right. The SW binge continues. Finished my entire claim over at [livejournal.com profile] swsaga100. Went on a slight Padme craze toward the end so there are some extra.

Belatedly added LJ cut. Thanks, Nerca. )
