Jan. 12th, 2008 05:58 amWell. I have been laying awake for about two hours, so I decided that I might as well get up. I have come to two conclusions.
Conclusion #1--It does me no good to ever go to bed before 3AM. Ever. No matter how tired I am. Unless I want to be awake by 4AM (which incidentally I used to do on a daily basis. bleh) I need to stay awake until 3.
Yesterday I got about 3.5 hours of sleep, so I figured that there would be nothing wrong with going to bed early when I started to fall asleep writing Ani and Vader's visions last night. (I don't even want to LOOK at the second file. Kim, you're going to have a field day.) I thought for sure that I would manage 8 hours' sleep. So much for my attempt at normalcy.
Conclusion #2--I'm going to have to make a decision pretty soon about whether or not to pay for webhosting.
Here's the deal:
-I like using PB to host my icons because it generates blocks of image links that can be cut and pasted into The Icon Table Generator in about five seconds flat. Given that I post icons in batches of 100 or more at a time, this is a huge time-saver and a blessing, since coding icon tables is annoying. Thank you,
77words btw. I don't say it often enough.
- I tend to exceed bandwidth a lot (thank you, bandwidth theives and idiots who never leave comments) and with the size of my icon batches, it seemed like a good idea last year to get a paid PB account. It has worked out really well, but I know that eventually I'm going to run out of space there. You are allowed to have one free account--and as many paid accounts as you want to shell out the cash for, I assume--but thanks to the bandwidth issue I'm sure that using a free account would be problematic again.
-Having 2 paid PB accounts seems ridiculous to me. Between 2 PB accounts and a paid LJ (which I'd really like to keep for other reasons) I would be paying about as much, possibly a bit more than I used to pay for hosting on my now-defunct website. I haven't really looked into hosting plans recently since I've had no reason to do so, but I can't imagine that costs have gone up THAT much, and I don't need as much space as say, someone who would be hosting episodes or large amounts of unedited images (cap zips or galleries)

aruna7 Currently hosts my (relatively few) fanvids and my fanfiction, but those are simple to encode, and I think that hosting ALL of my art would become a huge drain on her, both in terms of time and in terms of how much space it would take on her server. If I'm going to upload and encode that much stuff, I really feel that I should do it myself rather than have her go to the insane amount of effort it would take. So, she is not allowed to offer. *winks*
-The main problem is I really don't like html or css, which is why I let my site go before. Not that I can't do it; I've taken Website Design classes, and it's been a while, but I could re-teach myself anything I really needed to do. But I just honestly don't enjoy coding. I know some people will think that's strange, but I find it tedious, especially since I tend to make small errors that will mess up an entire page and don't necessarily show up in a validator, then have to go back and FIND them.
-A second, related problem is using the table generator to post here. I have yet to hear of any webhost which will generate image code for you once you've uploaded your stuff. As far as I am aware, LJ's Scrapbook feature, which I've tried to use a few times, doesn't either. That is the main advantage of PB for me. I DO NOT like to sit for hours on end coding tables.
So, I guess it's a case of pros and cons. I am weighing my options and looking into hosting options. Any thoughts/suggestions would be welcome.
