Apocalypta is a Finland-based symphonic metal band that--among other things--plays Metallica sans vocals and on the cello.
Seriously, I have been a Metallica fan for close to 20 years. I was very skeptical about the concept of Metallica songs done on four cellos, especially without vocals, even though I also like Metallica's instrumental work. However, I like to keep an open mind, so I checked them out and I was not only surprised, I was stunned.
Enter Sandman lacks some of the power in the original, but ONE and Master of Puppets are amazing. Given the fact of how much effort must go into playing metal on classical string intruments, especially the cello given the reach necessary--my cousin played the thing for years so, I know a bit about it-- I have nothing but respect for these guys.
